OrthoHelix Surgical Design, Inc: Local Physicians Develop New Innovative Implants to Improve Patient Care

OrthoHelix Surgical Designs, Inc., based in northeast Ohio, has received FDA clearance to market the DRLock Extreme® Distal Radius Plating System with TriBrid™ screw technology. The unique plates have an anatomical contour to match the volar surface of the radius and uses the same screw geometry of other successful OrthoHelix products.
Dr. John Dietrich, a practicing orthopedic hand specialist in the Summa Health System network, is one of the designing surgeons for the new DRLock Extreme® and states, “The new design of the plates will allow surgeons the flexibility to treat complicated distal radius fractures with an armamentarium of screw/plate constructs never before available in a single tray. The DRLock Extreme® plate is anatomically contoured and features enhanced design features that allow placement of locking, non-locking and variable locking screws. Ergonomically designed instrumentation allows surgeons the ability to reconstruct these difficult fractures with greater ease and less wear and tear on themselves.”
The DRLock Extreme® is one of ten product lines offered by OrthoHelix. This system will also contain TriBrid™ screw technology which allows a surgeon to have the option of using a non-locking, locking or OrthoLock™ variable locking screw in the same plate. Now surgeons have all three options in one set and can decide inter-operatively which screw option is best for the procedure. This technology has been developed in part with the award of the Ohio Third Frontier Technology grant.
