OrthoHelix Surgical Designs, Inc: Awarded Ohio Third Frontier Grant
Medina, Ohio – July 14, 2011
OrthoHelix Surgical Designs, Inc. has been awarded an Ohio Third Frontier Grant for the PocketLock™ Technology platform. The EdgeLock® Translational Osteotomy Plate for flat foot/high arch correction and the ISO™ Intraosseous Sliding Osteotomy Plate both currently contain PocketLock™ Technology. The $1 million grant will allow OrthoHelix to complete the development of a new design for a plating system for fixation of small bones containing PocketLock™ Technology.
Last year, OrthoHelix received a similar award for the development of the Tribrid™ Technology. Tribrid™ Technology is the ability for plates to accommodate fixed angle locking, non-locking, and variable angle locking screws giving surgeons all three options in one set and can decide intraoperatively which screw option is best. Unlike other variable angle locking systems on the market, the Tribrid™ design does not compromise the strength of any of the locking holes.
The Ohio Third Frontier programs accelerate the development and growth of the biomedical, medical imaging, and sensors industries and their supply chains in Ohio. The programs provide direct financial support to organizations seeking to: commercialize new products; adapt or modify existing devices, diagnostics, or components; address technical and commercialization barriers; or demonstrate market readiness. Ohio Third Frontier, an unprecedented and bipartisan commitment to create new technology-based products, companies, industries, and jobs, has attracted more than $5.9 billion in other investments to Ohio, and has a nearly 9:1 return on investment since its inception. The Ohio Third Frontier has also assisted in the creation and retention of more than 68,000 direct and indirect jobs for Ohioans. For more information, visit http://ohiothirdfrontier.com.
