Employees submit proposals on process efficiencies to promote company growth

Medina, OH- August 4, 2011
“We created this competition to tap into the substantial talent pool within the organization. Not only do these competitions lead to significant ideas and improvements to our business, they are an excellent team building event for the entire organization. It is truly amazing what the teams have come up with this time. The amount of passion, commitment, and creativity displayed by all of the teams is very impressive,” Derek Lewis, Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Research & Development.
All of the corporate employees are assigned to cross-functional teams from senior management to shipping and receiving. The teams are given two months, two challenges, a limited budget, and only a certain number of hours during the work week to dedicate to the competition.
For this quarter’s competition, the challenge was to design a method of demonstrating one of the new PocketLock™ products to surgeons and hospital staff and to implement cost saving or efficiency enhancement to an existing process within OrthoHelix. “This quarter’s competition produced the most new ideas for process improvement than any in the last three years,” Dennis Stripe, OrthoHelix Chief Executive Officer.
It was difficult to choose a winner, but this quarter’s winning team designed a re-usable demonstration keychain for the new ISO™ (Intraosseous Slide Osteotomy) Plate with PocketLock™ Technology as well as implemented a website portal for their sales reps to organize and track their inventory.
